Bogor (April 24, 2026) – In commemoration of the 4th anniversary of DEFEND ID, the State-Owned Enterprise Defense Industry Holding Company (SOE) emphasized its strategic steps to strengthen the independence of the National Defense Industry through leadership enhancement and cross-sector collaboration. This was realized through a Working Meeting and Leadership Development Program held at the Sentul Peacekeeping Mission Center (PMPP), Bogor, on April 22-24, 2026.

This activity was not merely an internal consolidation forum, but also a strategic space to align the direction of National Defense Industry policy amidst increasingly complex global geopolitical dynamics. The forum was attended by the Board of Commissioners and Directors of the Defense Industry, as well as prospective future leaders of the Defense Industry.

Several key stakeholders were also in attendance, including the Indonesian Minister of Defense, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin; the Indonesian Deputy Minister of Defense, Donny Ermawan; and the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of BPI Danantara Asset Management Indonesia, Dony Oskaria, along with representatives from other strategic institutions.

The President Director of the Defense Industry Holding Company, DEFEND ID, Prof. Joga Dharma Setiawan, Ph.D., emphasized that this activity is a crucial opportunity to strengthen the leadership foundation and direction of DEFEND ID's transformation. "Through this forum, we are not only aligning strategies but also preparing future leadership that is adaptive and imbued with integrity as the foundation for building an independent, superior, and globally competitive Defense Industry."

He added, "Strengthening research, innovation, and mastery of technology are key to fostering the independence of the Defense Industry, which must be supported by close collaboration between industry, the government, and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI).

On the same occasion, Indonesian Minister of Defense, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, expressed his support, stating that building a defense industry cannot be done in isolation. It requires strong, integrated leadership capable of uniting all national forces—the government, the TNI, and industry—in a single, clear direction. The defense industry is a strategic part of national development, which not only safeguards sovereignty but must also be encouraged to become a real contributor to economic growth.

"Therefore, leadership regeneration, management strengthening, and the implementation of targeted strategies are key to ensuring the sustainability of this industry. We need leaders who are able to understand change, make strategic decisions, and lead the Indonesian defense industry forward. DEFEND ID must be the starting point, the starting point, and the leading position in driving the progress of the national defense industry. If we previously saw the defense industry operating at the bottom, today we see it starting to rise to the top. This is a sign of progress and growing trust, which must be maintained and strengthened. This momentum should not remain symbolic, but must be translated into concrete steps through strengthening synergy, concentrating national power, and a forward-looking orientation, so that Indonesia truly has a defense industry that is independent, resilient, and globally competitive," he emphasized.

In line with this, the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia, Donny Ermawan, emphasized that the independence of the defense industry is a primary prerequisite for maintaining national sovereignty. According to him, modernization of defense equipment, strengthening efficient organizations, and improving the quality of human resources must go hand in hand. "Defense strength is not only about primary weapons systems, but also about the nation's ability to stand on its own two feet," he said.

Furthermore, Dony Oskaria, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of BPI Danantara Asset Management Indonesia, emphasized that DEFEND ID's strategic steps must align with government policy directions, particularly in driving national economic transformation. "As a state-owned enterprise, DEFEND ID has a dual role, not only as a business entity but also as a state instrument in strengthening the independence of strategic industries," he stated.

The three-day event featured presentations on defense industry policy directions, strategic discussions across leadership, and the sharing of best practices from DEFEND ID's President Directors. Several speakers from various institutions also provided perspectives on industrial transformation, governance, human resource development, and global geopolitical challenges.

In addition to formulating a more integrated and implementable work plan, this program also focuses on strengthening leadership character, increasing strategic decision-making capacity, and building solid collaboration within the DEFEND ID ecosystem. Through this 4th anniversary momentum, DEFEND ID affirms its commitment to continue transforming into the backbone of the national defense industry, not only in safeguarding national sovereignty but also as a driving force for economic independence based on strategic technology.
